Shadow

The rains that shook the City of Chennai, sometime during the first week of December last year is one event that won’t fade away from our minds for a long time. Said to have broken down the overall record in a century, Chennai City experienced the worst of floods that was totally unanticipated. Thousands were left homeless and the rest recorded as missing or declared dead. This was by-far the worst phase that Chennai was put through in the year 2015.

Upon nature having showcased its deadly side, Humanity simply remained untouched. Thanks to all those who stepped in and helped to Shape the city and bring it back to its pre-monsoon condition.

It is with pride that we boast of our involvement in rescue and rehabilitation efforts that our team of volunteers carried out across several regions of Chennai. We stood for a noble cause when tough times demanded, learning that humanity is the only thing that stays untouched even if it were the end of the world.

Chennai Contribution

During the heartwarming period of December 2015, several locations in and around Tambaram experienced the outpouring of love and support through the Be Proud initiative.

On the 5th of December, in Kadaperi, Tambaram, the event extended its helping hand to 150 families, providing them with essential supplies like lunch, bedsheets, water, dinner, biscuits, antibiotics, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.

Continuing the spirit of generosity, the Be Proud team moved to Mudichur on the 6th of December, where 100 families were touched by their kindness, receiving milk, bedsheets, biscuits, antibiotics, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mosquito coils.

On the 7th of December, the Be Proud initiative spread its wings to Manimangalam and Lakshmi Nagar, benefitting 150 families in each location. The families were provided with much-needed items such as biscuits, bread, lunch, water, soap, antibiotics, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mosquito coils, adding comfort and relief to their lives.

The collective effort of Be Proud and the immense support from the community made these events truly memorable, reflecting the power of compassion and solidarity in making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Cuddalore, known to have been one of the worst affected areas due to floods caused by heavy rainfall, was left with an acute shortage of daily essentials. While volunteering and rescue works to the needy were underway from several organizations and government agencies, we stepped in as well. DevCare solutions organized a team of volunteers and visited the affected areas surrounding Cuddalore and Pondicherry. Basic toiletries, Medicines, Food, Bed sheets and Clothes were distributed to about 563 families from these disaster-struck zones.

Cuddalore Contribution

On December 7, 2015, our team visited Poovazhai Village, where we provided essential items to 100 families in need. These items included mats, bedsheets, medicine, candles with matchboxes, mosquito coils, paste with brushes, Dettol bottles, soap, and towels. The following day, we extended our assistance to 121 families in PalliNerrodai Village, providing them with bedsheets, towels, and clothes.

Continuing our efforts on December 9, 2015, we revisited Poovazhai Village, this time supporting 220 families with bedsheets, towels, and clothes. Additionally, on the same day, we reached out to 41 families in Thirupaninaatham and 81 families in Vadaharirajapuram, offering them bedsheets, towels, and clothes to help them through their difficult times.

Our mission was to make a positive impact on the lives of these communities by providing much-needed assistance and essentials during their challenging circumstances. With the support of generous donors and volunteers, we were able to bring a ray of hope and comfort to these families.
